Evidemment... donc frein ou embrayage, comme tu le dis...

That black tube with a 'bulb' on it or a slit as someone else put it actually has a name. it is 'Tom's Knob'.

Tom or (late Tom now) was a really good friend and worked on the production at Abingdon. He was a member of the MG football team, snooker team and an excellent golf player. Best centre forward and always on the ball. He scored hundreds of goals in the local football league, and was as good as Joe Davis on the snooker baize.

One day as he was rushing to get changed after the football match he caught his 'percy' in the zip on his trousers.

Zip's were a reasonably new thing back then having replaced the old fly buttons.

As he was rushed to hospital the rest of the team whilst concerned for Tom still had tea with the opponents as usual.

Several weeks later when Tom returned to football form and got fit again it was obvious Tom had had a serious operation. Not that everybody was looking in the showers but it was the first time we had seen Tom since his operation and he was still bruised and swollen.

The next working day on the production line Johnny who played left wing for the MG football club, (named after the great Man United player Johnny Giles) was fitting the black rubber thingy ma jig with the split and bulbous end and shouted across to another one of the MG football team mate, Richard Holder, hey Dick this looks like Tom's Knob.

From that day on the black thingy has been known to everyone as Tom's Knob. It's real engineering name for anyone interested is actually the Plenum Drain Tube

Tom's wife is still alive and tried for many years to claim royalties on the name Tom's Knob as it started to be used in the suppliers parts manuals. Rumour is there was an out of court settlement and gagging order so no one was allowed to talk about it again. However the name still remains and Tom's Knob will live on forever as he rests gently, leaves blowing over his grave and fresh rain water gently running down his coffin, knowing the MG will survive forever and there will always be someone to pass his story on remembering his great skill with a load of balls.

hi Steve, I worked at the factory myself for 12 years....your tail was before my time "68-80" I always new it as a donkey's dick...but didn't like to say...glad I now know what it should be called.....

Nice 'pun' on the use of tail..............If you remember Richard Holder, he was the Line Supervisor and it was awkward to use the name Dick for anything with him around. He might have left by the time you joined and Tom sadly had passed away, he was never right after the operation so out of respect William known as Willy for short may have just tried to rename it to donkeys dick but it never really expanded into use and Tom's Knob won the day.

Ce que ne dit pas Saby par délicatesse, mais je vais écrire car je suis un soudard, c'est que Tom's knob se traduit en français par "tête de p.ne"
